About James Houston, O.M.D L.Ac
James was born and raised in Portland, Oregon where he enjoyed the Pacific Northwest’s great natural resources. He grew up with motorcycles, traveling around the united states with his father and brother. He was first introduced to Asian culture through the martial arts and his close relationships to his teachers. James holds a Blackbelt in Tae Kwon Do and Tang Soo Do. He has studied Filipino Kali-Escrima, Kung Fu San Soo and Shaolin.
Before studying Chinese Medicine, James worked in surgery for 12 years as a Surgical Technician. He provided instrumentation and assisted in a wide variety of surgeries including general, vascular and orthopedic including total joint replacements. He was on the neurosurgery team providing instrumentation for brain and spinal surgeries. James set up the retinal surgery department at Century City Hospital in West Los Angeles.
After earning a Master of Oriental Medicine degree in Los Angeles he completed an internship at Guang An Men Hospital in Beijing, China. and holds a Doctorate in Oriental Medicine from Kowloon, China.
He is a past examiner for the California Acupuncture Board Licensing Exam and served as Department Chair in Acupuncture for one of the largest Oriental Medicine schools in the country.
He has had the great fortune to study under eminent teachers such as Jian Fu Jiang, San Hong Hwang and Jeffrey Yuen.
James holds a National Certification in Acupuncture, (Dipl. Ac., NCCAOM) and holds state licenses in both California and Oregon.
